Spent $80 on a heat gun for macarons, my kitchen almost paid the price

Bought a fancy heat gun last month to dry macaron shells faster, thought I was being clever. First batch, I left it on medium for 30 seconds too long and the tray started smoking, my wife yelled at me from the living room. Has anyone else had close calls with drying shortcuts, or am I the only one who nearly set off the smoke detector for French cookies?
