A guy told me my fades looked "rushed at the end" and it bugged me for a week
About a month ago a regular of 3 years sat down, and when I finished he said my fade looked "rushed at the end" near the crown, like I was trying to get him out of the chair. That stung because I thought my blend was clean, but when I looked at it under the mirror light he was right, I was doing the last two guard steps too fast and leaving faint lines. So now I force myself to slow down the top third of every fade, and I run a bare blade pass with a light touch before I ever grab the clippers again. Part of me thinks he was just being picky and the cut was fine, but the other part thinks honest feedback from a guy who pays me every 3 weeks is worth more than a compliment. I also started asking one simple thing at the end of each cut: where does it feel off to you. Some guys say nothing, some point at a spot I would have missed. Where do you all land on this, do you take one customer's criticism as gospel and change your whole routine, or do you wait to hear the same gripe twice before you touch your process?
