Blew out a clipper blade mid haircut and had to scramble

Was doing a fade on a regular client last Tuesday afternoon, about halfway through his sides. Heard a loud pop and the blade on my Wahl Senior just locked up. Stuttered an apology and told him I'd be right back, ran to the shop fridge where I keep my backup. Had to finish his whole cut with an Andis Master I barely use, hands were shaking the whole time. Anyone else had a tool fail right in the middle of a busy chair?

That "had to scramble" part hit close to home. I used to be the guy who thought one clipper was enough, that backups were just for shops with too much money. But after a similar thing happened to me with a pop and a seized up blade on a Sunday, I changed my tune real quick. Now I keep a whole second setup in my bag, and I even switched to using a detachable blade system so if one blade blows I can swap it in seconds. Your mileage may vary, but that fear of it happening again sticks with you way longer than the actual scramble.

Funny you mention that, I had a buddy who swore up and down he'd never need a backup. Then his clipper died mid haircut on a Friday, and he had to borrow the homeowner's kitchen scissors to finish the job. Trust me, he bought a whole new setup before the weekend was over.
