Catching a glimpse of plastic razors in every shop... makes me miss the steel.

I remember when a shave was an event... not just a quick pass. We used to heat the towels by hand, mix the lather fresh. Now, it's all pre-made foam and one-time blades. The skill of holding a straight razor steady is fading... I see new barbers afraid of it. Clients get a faster cut, but they lose that smooth finish. Let's not forget how it felt to do it right... take the time to teach the old ways.

Used to think it was just about speed, but that smooth finish really IS a lost art.

Remember my grandpa's steady hand with that cold steel.

Your grandpa's skill with cold steel points to a deeper kind of knowledge. @nathan283, that steady hand shows a focus we don't see much anymore. How do you even learn that level of control without years of practice? It's about more than just making things. It's about respect for the material and the process. Today, most stuff is made fast and cheap, without that personal touch. Makes you realize what hands like your grandpa's could really do.
