Had a walk-in ask for a 'modern mullet' last Tuesday and I actually enjoyed doing it

Guy was in his 40s, sat down, said he trusted me completely, and after 45 minutes of texturizing and blending he tipped $25 on a $35 cut how often does that happen to you?

Honestly I'm kind of on the other side of this, I'd feel weird taking that much of a tip on a basic haircut like it sets some weird expectation for next time.

Gasped when I read that. You're honestly telling me that a $5 tip on a $30 haircut sets some weird expectation? That's like worrying the barista at Starbucks is going to expect a handshake and a key to your apartment because you threw a dollar in the jar. I've never once had a barber give me a dirty look the next time I came in with a smaller tip. They probably don't even remember what you tipped last time, they cut like 15 heads a day.
