Just hit 1000 haircuts this week - didn't see that coming
I was going through my books on Tuesday night and realized my last client of the day was number 1000 since I started cutting professionally back in March 2022. That number kind of blew my mind because it doesn't feel like I've done that many. I remember stressing over my first 10 cuts and now I can do a fade in about 22 minutes without even thinking. The funny thing is I never set a goal like 'I wanna hit 1000 cuts' but seeing it in black and white made me feel like I'm actually getting somewhere. Has anyone else reached a milestone like that and had it sneak up on them?

1000 haircuts in 2 years? That math actually kind of scares me.

Well, is it really that scary when you break it down? I mean, 1000 haircuts over two years comes to maybe 16 or 17 cuts per week, and a busy barber or stylist can easily do that in a few days. If you factor in walk-ins, double bookings, and quick trim services, it starts to sound pretty reasonable for someone who works full time. Some barbers I know do 30 or even 40 cuts in a single day during a rush, so 1000 in two years might actually mean they're not super busy. Maybe the math just shows they're consistent and have a loyal client base.

@sanchez.robin you make a fair point about the math, but I think you're missing how personal the craft is. That 22 minute fade isn't just speed, it's years of muscle memory and trust built with clients. So here's my question - what counts as a milestone worth celebrating in a trade like this? Is it purely about volume or is there more to it? Because 1000 cuts means you've probably fixed someone's bad hair day before a wedding, calmed down a kid who was terrified of clippers, and helped a dozen people feel better about themselves. That's not nothing, even if some barbers do 40 cuts in a day.
