My old shop used hot lather from a machine, and the new place just uses a cup, and man, I miss it
Worked at a shop off Halsted in Chicago for 6 years where we had this old LatherKing machine that pumped out hot foam with the push of a lever, and switching to a plain badger brush and mug when I moved shops felt like a downgrade at first. The machine kept the foam hot for the whole shave, and my straight razor passes on regulars like Mr. Alvarez were smoother because the lather never cooled off on their neck. Took me about 4 months of messing with water temp and brush technique to get close to it by hand, and honestly it's still not the same on a 20 minute shave. Any of you old timers still running a lather machine, or did everyone go brush only when the new wave shops took over?

Wait, Mr. Alvarez?? That's wild, I actually know an Alvarez family that ran a shop off Halsted back in the day. Small world.
