Old timer at the shop told me my fades were too high

This 30 year veteran barber walked over while I was doing a skin fade on a regular last Tuesday and straight up said my blend line was too close to the temple. He showed me how dropping the guideline lower by about an inch makes the whole fade flow better into the crown. Has anyone else had to relearn their fade placement after getting roasted by a senior barber?

Yeah that "blend line too close to the temple" comment hits different when it comes from a guy who's been doing it since the 90s. Dropping that guideline down an inch really does help it sit more natural, especially on denser hair types.

Ugh, the "blend line too close to the temple" thing is one of those details that separates the good cuts from the great ones. @coleman.christopher you're spot on about that inch lower making a world of difference, especially when you've got thicker hair that just wants to do its own thing. I swear every time I tell a newer barber to drop their guideline a bit they look at me like I'm speaking a different language. Then they try it once and suddenly it clicks. Sort of like how my grandma used to say "measure twice, cut once" except she was talking about fabric and I'm talking about not giving someone a bald spot.
