Old timer's straight razor comment still bugs me

Last month a guy in his 70s sat in my chair in Austin and watched me line him up with a foil shaver. He said real barbers use a straight razor and nothing else. I asked how many walk-ins he sees who sit still for that. He didn't have an answer. I know the craft matters, but respecting what clients actually want matters more. Has anyone else had a customer question your tools like that?

I read a survey last year that said almost 60% of men under 40 have NEVER used a straight razor. That old guy is remembering a time that mostly doesn't exist anymore. You're right to give people what they're comfortable with, not what makes you feel like a traditionalist.
