Serious question about why I used to hate clipper comb attachments

I talked to this older barber named Dave at a shop in Denver last month who told me my fades looked rough because I was never using guards above a 2. He said 'you think you're too good for guards but they give you the cleanest blend every time.' Has anyone else had to swallow their pride and go back to basics like that?

Getting comfortable with the smaller guards really forces you to slow down and pay attention to the details. Dave was right, those higher guards make the blend way smoother if you just trust the process.

Oh man, that TOTALLY reminds me of something that happened to my buddy Chris. He was at his kitchen island with that cheap ceramic burr grinder, trying to dial in a light roast Ethiopian for like the fourth time that morning. He was so frustrated he nearly threw the whole setup out the window because the grind was all over the place. Then he just gave up, set it to the coarsest setting he had, and BAM, the pour over flowed perfectly steady for the first time ever. He texted me later saying he finally understood why people say to "trust the dumb thing" even when it feels wrong at first.
