That older barber I respect finally told me I'm killing my shears with cheap cleaner

He said the alcohol-based spray I've been using for two years is drying out the pivot and ruining the edge. Has anyone else had a pro call them out on something basic like that and totally rethink their setup?

Oh man, @anthony_lane55 that hits way too close to home lol. I've been using WD-40 as my "all-purpose tool oil" for years until a buddy saw me and physically recoiled.

And that's the thing about any hobby or trade, right? You learn the big stuff early but the little details take years to catch up with you. It's like how I used to store my leatherworking tools in the garage, never thinking about humidity, until a guy in my club pointed out my awls were all pitted. Now I keep silica packs in my toolbox and feel like a clown for not thinking of it sooner. Always the small, obvious things that get you in the end.
