The old barber who said stop using thinning shears on curly hair was right all along
Started cutting a guy with tight curls a few months back and used my thinners like I always do. Big mistake lol. The texture came out all choppy and uneven, client was not happy. My mentor from 5 years ago told me thinners are for straight hair only, guess I should have listened. Anyone else had to learn this lesson the hard way?

Wait, so you're saying thinning shears are basically useless on any kind of curl pattern? Like even loose waves, or is it just super tight curls that get wrecked?

Oh man, I've been there. Even loose waves get messed up if you use thinning shears. The problem is they cut some hairs short and leave others long, so you end up with random frizzy bits sticking out where the short ones spring up. For loose waves you're BETTER off using point cutting or just getting a regular trim to remove bulk. Trust me, I ruined a good wavy phase once with thinning shears and it took months to grow out.
