Two hours on a skin fade line, one damn cowlick

Clients cowlick sits right at the temple, and no matter how I angled the clippers, that line kept dipping. I tried freehand, then a different guard, then adjusting the comb, nothing held for like 45 minutes. Finally popped the trimmers out and worked the fade line backward, feathering little strokes instead of one pass. Took me close to two hours total on what should be a 30 minute cut. Client was patient, even joked about wearing a hat. But it got me thinking, do you guys size up a cowlick before you even start, or just find out the hard way like me? What's your move when a fade line just refuses to sit straight?

Two hours on a skin fade line" and I woulda charged like it was a surgery, honestly. Cowlicks are just hair flipping us off to prove they're in charge. My move is to act like I planned it, tell the client it's a "custom texture detail" and pray they don't look too close in the mirror.
