Charging my old iPod with a $4 wall plug instead of a laptop, and I wish I'd known sooner

I used to plug my 2006 iPod into my work laptop every morning to charge, which meant a 2 hour charge and a dead laptop battery by lunch. Now I use a $4 USB wall block I got at a Kenosha thrift store, and it tops the thing off in about 45 minutes with no laptop involved. Anyone else got a cheap power workaround that saved a gadget you almost threw out?
