I laughed at my dad's $15 answering machine from a Rochester flea market, then the power went out for 4 days
He kept it plugged in next to his kitchen phone and I gave him grief about it every visit, but during the big ice storm up there it was the only thing in the house that still took messages when his cell died. Now I'm wondering if anyone else here still runs a landline gadget for emergencies, or am I just turning into him?
Ha! My mom still has her old corded phone plugged in from like 1998 and I make fun of it every single time I visit. Sure enough, when a storm knocked out power for two days last winter, that ugly beige thing was the only way we could call my aunt to check on her. Honestly I stopped laughing after that and I'm kinda thinking about getting one for my own place now.
