That guy at the swap meet who talked me out of a $40 DVD player

I was in Austin back in March at the Round Rock swap meet eyeing one of those no-name portable DVD players with the 7 inch screen. Older dude running the stall next to it pulled me aside and said 'that thing eats discs whole, my cousin bought three from that guy'. He showed me the seam where the lid warped after a week. I walked away and grabbed a used Panasonic from a pawn shop for $25 instead, still runs fine. Has anyone else had a random stranger save them from a bad bin buy?
