Dropped $400 on a ceramic smoker last spring, biggest mistake of my BBQ life

I bought one of those shiny ceramic kamado style smokers thinking it would be my forever grill, but after 8 months the inner seal started failing and now I can't hold temps below 300. I mean, maybe it's just me but I'm babysitting that thing constantly. Is there a fix for the gasket or should I just cut my losses and go back to a basic offset?

Watch my buddy Dave drop damn near a grand on a Big Green Egg clone and spend every weekend for a year fighting the same temp creep issue until he finally broke down and bought a rutland gasket kit off Amazon for 15 bucks. That thing worked like a charm for like two more years before he sold it to some guy who thought he was getting a deal. Maybe try the gasket first before you dump the whole smoker.

Man, that story hits way too close to home. I had a similar headache with my offset smoker a few years back, chasing leaks like it was a full time job. It's wild how such a cheap fix can save you from tossing a pile of cash at a whole new setup. I swear half the problems people blame on "bad smokers" are just crappy seals and a little patience. Glad your buddy finally got it sorted, even if it took a year of frustration.
