Hot take: Watching a guy at a local contest in Kansas City use apple juice as a binder instead of mustard completely flipped my whole approach

I was at the American Royal last fall and saw this old timer from a tiny team spray apple juice on his brisket before the rub and the bark came out way richer than anything I've ever made, has anyone else tried this or am I just late to the party?

Wait, so you're telling me I've been slathering yellow mustard on my meat like a fool when I could've just been spritzing it with apple juice this whole time? Guess I owe my local grocery store an apology for all those dirty looks I gave the apple juice aisle.

20 years of backyard smoking and I've been using mustard like an idiot. @blakefox at least you found out now instead of 20 years in. Guess I'm apologizing to the apple aisle AND my family for all that dry brisket.
