I finally told a pitmaster his brisket was dry and he thanked me

Ngl, I was at a small comp outside Tulsa last summer and this guy took third. Everyone was raving, but the flat was like sawdust. I walked up and said it straight, no fluff. He laughed and admitted he pulled it at 198 instead of waiting for the probe to slide. Then he offered me a slice from the point, which was perfect, and we talked about rest times for 20 minutes. Has anyone else had a pitmaster actually appreciate honest feedback instead of getting defensive?

Funny how that only happens when someone actually knows their stuff.
