I read that some competition teams go through over 200 pounds of wood for a single brisket cook. Found that in an old forum thread from a guy in Kansas City.

Actually @davis.victor, three bags of splits for one brisket is way overkill unless your fire management is terrible.

That "200 pounds for a single brisket" number sounds about right. I saw a team at a local comp go through three whole bags of hickory splits for one cook. They were running a big offset and kept a raging fire going for almost 20 hours straight. It's a whole different world from backyard smoking.

Honestly, I used to go through that many splits too before I figured out I was just feeding a fire instead of managing one. What finally clicked for me was using smaller splits and letting the fire breathe instead of constantly adding wood. I started cutting my hickory splits down to about 4-6 inches thick and only adding one at a time. Cut my fuel usage in half and the brisket came out way more consistent. Tbh, three bags for one cook is a lot unless you're running a 500 gallon tank or something.
