Saw a pitmaster in Lockhart use a leaf blower on his coals

Stopped at a spot off 183 last weekend and the guy fired up a leaf blower to get his oak coals raging. Took maybe 20 seconds to go from gray to glowing, way faster than my chimney starter. Has anyone else tried this or is it just a Texas thing?
