Spent $150 on a fancy thermometer set and never used half the probes

I bought a 6-probe wifi setup thinking I'd monitor everything at once. 3 years later I still only use the main meat probe and the others are sitting in a drawer. Anyone else end up with gadget regret at the grill?

Wait, you mean to tell me you dropped $150 on probes and most of them are just collecting dust in a drawer? That sounds like a lot of money for something you barely touch. I get wanting to be prepared, but three years is a long time to keep telling yourself you'll use them.

Man, that hits home way harder than I expected. It's funny you mention that because I've been noticing something similar in my own life - not just with probes but with all kinds of stuff. You know how we buy things thinking we'll totally use them someday? Like that bread machine my sister got me that's still in the box under the sink. Or those fancy hiking boots I bought three years ago that have only seen the inside of my closet. I think it's part of this bigger cycle where we convince ourselves that having the stuff is the same as doing the thing. We're all just collecting little reminders of who we want to be, not who we actually are. And then we look around one day and realize we spent a lot of money on a fantasy version of ourselves that never quite showed up. So yeah, those probes are just a really expensive way of saying "I'm the kind of person who fixes things" while the real you is probably just as happy watching YouTube tutorials about it.
