That 4 a.m. pork butt at the Franklin line broke my patience for good

Stood outside Franklin Barbecue last Saturday with three buddies, started at 3:45 a.m. and watched two people ahead of us buy the last two pork butts at 9. We waited five hours for brisket, got it, but now I refuse to do any overnight smoker run without calling ahead or checking their twitter first. Anyone else given up on the whole camp-out ritual after one bad experience?

Felt that pain deep in my bones. It's like we've all been trained to accept this weird suffering just to get decent food, but honestly, that's got nothing to do with barbecue anymore. Once you've stood in the cold watching people grab the last of something you wanted, you start seeing the same thing everywhere, like concert tickets or that new taco spot downtown. The whole waiting game just feels like a test of how much nonsense you'll put up with before you snap. Now I'm all about checking the live updates and rolling up when the crowds are gone, even if it means a slightly warmer brisket on the drive home.
