Warning: stop judging a pitmaster by the size of his smoker
I judged a guy at the Bessemer contest last month because he showed up with a little 22 inch WSM while everyone else had trailer rigs, and I figured he was just there to watch. He walked away with first place in pork and I stood there feeling like a fool. Turns out he'd been cooking on that same little cooker for 9 seasons and knew every hot spot on it by heart, while half the big rig crowd was still fighting temp swings all night. A big trailer doesn't buy you fire control or timing, it just buys you space. What's the smallest setup you've seen take a win, and did it change how you look at your own gear?
