Watched a pitmaster in Lockhart use a leaf blower on his coals and I almost walked out

I was at a BBQ joint outside Lockhart last spring and the guy running the pit fired up a gas leaf blower to bring his mesquite up to temp, which seemed like sacrilege until I tried it on my own drum smoker and now I can't go back, so has anyone else found a weird trick that feels wrong but works better than the classic method?

Used to think that was pure laziness. Saw a guy in Lockhart do it and wanted to say something. Then my drum smoker was dragging on a cold morning and I grabbed my shop blower. Fire roared up in minutes, clean burn, no ash blowing everywhere. Now I do it every time I need a fast temp jump. Feels wrong but the results are hard to argue with.
