Found a $5 birthday tape from 1989 at a thrift store, it had 20 minutes of static before the party

I grabbed this unlabeled VHS on a whim last weekend and thought it was dead when the first 20 minutes was just static and audio hiss. Then suddenly it cut to some kid's 7th birthday party at a roller rink in Phoenix, and the static part felt like the creepiest intro ever even though it was probably just an unrecorded section. Has anyone else had tapes where the blank parts ended up being the best part of the viewing experience?
