A librarian in Des Moines told me to quit using bookmarks, and she was dead right
Back in March I was at the downtown library in Des Moines and mentioned to the reference librarian that I kept losing track of stuff I wanted to read later. She said just write the page number on an index card and stick it in the back cover, forget the fancy bookmark collection. I tried it for a week and it was dumb at first, but now I have 14 index cards going and I actually finish things. The weird part is I remember what's on each card way better than I ever did with a browser tab. Anyone else ditch a tool and go back to paper for something like this?
Whoa there, 14 index cards sounds less like a system and more like a new pile of stuff to lose. Honestly the whole thing might just be that writing something down by hand makes you pay attention, which would work with sticky notes or a napkin too. Glad it clicked for you, but I would not call bookmarks the enemy here.
