Found a hidden trail map at the ranger station, saved my Sunday hike

Drove out to Red Rock Canyon last weekend and grabbed a paper map from the visitor desk, the one they don't advertise online. It showed a 4 mile loop that skips the crowded overlook and cuts through a dry creek bed with actual shade. Anyone else find that the old school paper maps beat the apps when you're out of cell range?

Ever notice how the ranger stations always have the best secrets tucked away? I did the same thing at a state park in Oregon last fall, grabbed a paper map nobody mentions online, and it led me to this abandoned fire watch tower with a view that had zero people around. The apps freeze up or give you tourist traps half the time, plus the paper one had little hand written notes from the rangers about where the wildflowers were blooming. I still keep a folded one in my car glovebox just for those dead zone moments, it’s saved me more than once.
