My monthly plant link dump got 3x more clicks after I added one thing

I run a small newsletter where I share cool gardening links every week, and last month I swapped my plain text headers for a single photo of the actual plant from the article. Sounds dumb but it worked, my open rate went from 12% to 36% in one issue. The trick was using a phone pic I took at the local nursery, not a stock image. Has anyone else tried visual previews instead of just descriptions in their link posts?
