Spent 3 hours trying to find a single missing sock in my laundry room

Last Tuesday I was sorting my laundry and realized one black sock from a brand new pair was just gone. I emptied every drawer, checked under the washer, even pulled the lint trap apart like a crazy person. It turned out to be stuck inside a fitted sheet that I had balled up and thrown in the closet. Three hours of my life gone for a sock that was never even lost, just hiding. Has anyone else had a laundry problem that took way longer to solve than it should have?

Try safety pins to keep sock pairs clipped together in the wash.
