The 'no returns on software' thing is mostly a myth now, blew my mind

So I was looking up a refund for a video editing program I bought last month. It was $80 and it kept crashing on my machine. I figured I was out of luck because of that old 'no refunds on opened software' rule. But I stumbled on a Reddit thread from like 2 years ago that pointed me to the FTC's cooling off rule. Turns out, if the software doesn't work as advertised, you can absolutely push for a refund. I filed a dispute with my credit card company and included screenshots of the crashes. Got my money back in 3 days. Never would have thought to try that. Has anyone else actually had luck getting a refund on a digital purchase?

Right? I used to be one of those people that just accepted the "no returns on software" thing as fact. Blew my mind too when I found out about the FTC rule. I had this issue with a cheap photo editor that would literally crash every time I tried to export a file. I did the same thing as you, filed a dispute with my card and showed them the error logs. Got refunded in a couple days. Before that I would have just taken the loss and moved on.
