Am I the only one who used to skip the weird intro tracks on mixtapes and now I play them first?
For years I'd hit skip the second a tape started with some garbled vocal loop or a drum machine clanking around, and last Tuesday I was ripping a 1997 mix I got at a flea market in Dayton and finally let the 40 second intro on side B play all the way through. It turns out the messed up part was me, because that clanky loop is the same sample chopped up under the whole track and it makes way more sense once you hear it first. What's the weirdest intro you used to skip that you actually like now?
That "it turns out the messed up part was me" line got me. My buddy had a DJ Screw tape where he always skipped this slow wobbly vocal at the top, then one night he left it on by accident and realized it was the hook pitched way down, just spread out. He called me at like 1am to tell me about it, all excited. Now he won't even start the tape without it.
