Hit 10,000 plays on a song with lyrics that literally say 'banana phone' and now I'm questioning everything

My buddy's track 'Fruit Loop Funk' has this drum machine that sounds like a dying toaster and the chorus repeats 'banana phone, banana phone, call me back' 14 times, and it somehow crossed 10,000 Spotify plays last Tuesday while my serious stuff sits at 89, is the algorithm just rewarding our worst mistakes or are we the only ones who think it's bad?

And honestly, the algorithm is doing exactly what it should by pushing that banana phone track, because catchy and weird beats thoughtful and serious every single time. People listen to music to feel something, and a dying toaster drum machine makes them laugh or at least tap their foot, while your serious stuff probably asks too much of them. Maybe the real mistake is thinking your taste matters more than what actually gets people to hit repeat.
