Just realized the "Star Wars" cantina band music was literally recorded in ten minutes
Read it in a Sound on Sound article from 1997 that someone scanned and posted. They just had John Williams bang out a quick sketch on a toy piano and called it done for the whole scene. Has anyone else stumbled onto a famous track that was basically a throwaway take?

The ten minute cantina band thing makes me feel better about every song I've ever written while barely awake. I once recorded a whole track on my phone in the bathroom at 2 AM because the tile made a cool echo, and now it's my most streamed song on SoundCloud. It's like the universe is telling me to stop overthinking and just hit record. Now I'm wondering how many other iconic bits of media were basically happy accidents.

A buddy of mine recorded a voice memo on his phone with acoustic guitar and some off-key humming during a power outage, just to kill time. He almost deleted it the next morning but his kid insisted on keeping it, and now it's the intro track on his band's album. That little mistake ended up being the one thing fans always ask about at shows.

So @campbell.nora, do you think there's something about those rough, unpolished recordings that actually captures an energy you can't get from a proper studio take, or is it just that people love the story behind it? I mean, his kid basically saved that track and now it's the fan favorite, which makes me wonder how many other songs out there got kept for weird sentimental reasons and just happened to click with listeners. It's like the universe really does nudge us to stop overthinking and just let the weird, accidental stuff stick around.
