My brother bet me $50 I couldn't listen to 'Rock Me Amadeus' 12 times in a row
So my brother throws down a $50 bill on the table last weekend and says I can't sit through Falco's "Rock Me Amadeus" a dozen times without skipping. Now, this song isn't even bad in the normal sense. It's got that goofy synth riff, the weird opera shouting, and the fact that it somehow hit number one in like every country on Earth. I made it to spin seven before my eye started twitching, and by spin ten I was muttering the German parts phonetically like a guy who lost his mind. Here's the thing though. Somewhere around listen nine, the stupid thing actually started sounding good to me. Like, I caught myself nodding along to the drum machine like it was a real groove. My brother counted the last one out loud, I didn't skip, and he handed over the cash looking kind of worried about me. Has anyone else had a song flip on you like that after enough forced repeats, or is it just me and Falco?
My buddy Dave did this with "Africa" by Toto, 14 times on a road trip to Cincinnati. By hour two he was doing the whole drum fill on the steering wheel and swears it's a masterpiece now. Something about the repeat button just rewires your brain.
