My cousin swore by a karaoke machine mic for recording vocals, he was actually onto something

Last month I tried recording a cover with a $15 USB karaoke mic from a garage sale in Portland, and the lo-fi crackle made the chorus sound like a haunted house beat. Has anyone else gotten a weird usable sound from gear that should be a joke, or did I just catch a lucky glitch?
