My kids tape recorder turned a gospel track into a horror movie beat

Last Tuesday my 7 year old left her toy Casio on a dying battery while I tried to sample a choir song for a remix, and now the pitch drops like a demon growl every 3 seconds. I kept it and added a kick drum, is this how people accidentally make haunted house tracks, or should I just buy new batteries?
