PSA: putting my drum machine through a $15 kids cassette player finally got the snare right

I was trying to fake that old worn out boom bap sound for months and nothing in my plugin folder worked, so on a whim I ran the snare out through a plastic recorder my kid left on the floor and recorded it back in. The hiss and wobble did more than any $200 plugin, and now the loop sounds like it fell off a 1994 demo tape. What cheap junk have you run tracks through that ended up working?
