Spent 3 years layering drums wrong before a buddy pointed it out at 2am
I had been stacking kicks and snares on the same track for years making everything muddy until a friend heard me mixing and just said "why aren't you using separate channels for each hit?" He sat down and showed me in 10 minutes and now my beats actually punch through. Has anyone else had that moment where one small fix changed your whole sound?

Wait is this really a game changer for most people though? I mean yeah separate channels help with mixing but I've seen plenty of producers get great results keeping things on one track if they know their levels and panning. Not saying your buddy was wrong or anything but a lot of this comes down to personal workflow. I've had moments where changing something small felt huge at first but then later I realized it was more about confidence than anything actually wrong with my sound. Your mileage may vary I guess but I wouldn't call it a universal fix.

Yeah it's funny you mention the confidence thing. I remember one time I spent like three hours tweaking my EQ because I was convinced something was off, then realized my monitors were slightly turned away from me. Fixed that and everything sounded fine. Sometimes the small stuff messes with your head more than the actual mix. You ever have one of those moments where you realize you were overthinking it?
