Switched from a MIDI controller to a cheap Casio keyboard and it changed everything

I used to think those drum pads and pad controllers were the only way to make decent beats, then my buddy brought over his crusty old Casio SK-1 from 1985. That thing sounds like a robot having a meltdown but the built-in rhythm section is somehow perfect for these lo-fi tracks I've been messing with. Has anyone else found a random piece of junk gear that totally outperformed your fancy setup?

Honestly that SK-1 is a beast in its own weird way. I grabbed a Yamaha PSS-480 at a thrift store for like ten bucks and it completely replaced my expensive workstation for lo-fi stuff. The factory drums sound like they're recorded through a tin can but they hit just right for that gritty, worn out feel. It's wild how those old toys have this character you just can't fake with plugins or fancy gear.

That SK-1 is basically a broken toy that somehow became a legend, right? My buddy picked one up for five bucks at a garage sale and now he swears by its "authentically garbage" sound. Meanwhile my "professional" gear just sits there looking pretty while that crusty keyboard does all the heavy lifting. Makes you wonder why we ever paid for nice stuff.
