A customer brought in a bike with a freehub that sounded like a bag of rocks

This was at the shop in Tacoma about three weeks ago. The guy said it started after a really wet ride, and sure enough, the freehub body was packed with old, gritty grease. I flushed it with a ton of solvent, repacked it with a light oil, and the noise was gone in ten minutes. What's your go-to method for a quiet freehub fix, especially after wet weather?

Packed with old, gritty grease" is just how everything feels after winter.

Man, that's so true... I read this article once about how road grime and salt just bake into a nasty film all winter long. It's not just on cars, it's on every outdoor surface, even the windows. That spring rain never feels like it washes it away clean, just sort of smears it around. Makes the whole world look tired until we get a proper, hard scrub from a few storms.
