A customer brought in a bike with a seized seatpost that had been stuck for over a year.

I tried the usual ammonia mix first, but it didn't budge. Then I heated the seat tube with a heat gun for about three minutes, focusing on the area just below the top tube junction. The aluminum post finally twisted out with a loud crack, and the inside of the steel tube was covered in white corrosion powder. What's your go-to method for a post that's been frozen that long?

My old shop teacher swore by a 50/50 mix of acetone and automatic transmission fluid. He said it creeps into the corrosion better than anything. I've seen it work on a post that was in there for a decade. That white powder is the worst sign.

Heat guns are the only thing that works on those long-term seizures.
