Bent derailleur hanger mid-ride in Austin, fixed it with a crescent wrench and patience

Was rolling down South Congress last Saturday when my shifting went to absolute garbage, looked down and the derailleur was kissing the spokes. Bent it back with a 6 inch crescent wrench right on the curb, took about 20 minutes of tiny adjustments, but I got it true enough to finish the last 12 miles without drama. Has anyone else done a roadside hanger straighten and just prayed the next shift wasnt the last one?
