Bled Shimano brakes in the dark with a water bottle trick

Last Tuesday my bleed kit was still at the shop and I had a customer waiting at 6 PM. I grabbed a 16 oz water bottle, poked a hole in the cap, and used it as a funnel with some tubing I had lying around. Poured the mineral oil in slow and it worked better than the proper syringe for getting air out of the caliper. Anyone else hacked together a bleed setup when you're in a pinch?
