My cheap cable cutters vs. a $80 Park Tool pair - what a joke the cheap ones were
Honestly, I tried snagging a $15 set of cable cutters off Amazon for my shop last month. They mangled the housing on a Shimano brake cable so bad the ferrule wouldn't even seat. Swapped to the Park Tool CN-10 and it cut through like butter on the first try. Anyone else find that the cheap stuff just isn't worth the hassle on housing?

Oh come on, you really think Park Tool is worth that much more? I've been using the same $12 pair from Harbor Freight for like four years now. They're a little blunt at this point but I just file them down and they work fine. I've done dozens of brake and shift housing cuts with them and never had a ferrule not seat. Maybe you just got a bad pair or were cutting at the wrong angle.

Filing them down every few months probably adds up to more effort than just buying the Park ones once.
