My old Park truing stand vs the new one, night and day difference

Picked up a used Park TS-2 at a swap meet in Tucson for $60 and it blew my mind compared to the cheaper clamped-on stand I'd been using. The old set up flexed every time I spun a wheel, so I'd end up chasing the wobble instead of fixing it. The TS-2 holds the axle rock solid, and I finished a true in about 15 minutes that usually took me an hour with the other one. Now I'm wondering, is it worth spending the extra cash on a new stand brand, or do the vintage models hold up just as well for daily shop work?

Gonna have to disagree with you there... I've been running an old TS-2 I got for almost nothing for like eight years now and it's still dead nuts accurate. The new ones have nicer knobs and maybe smoother dials, but the core holding mechanism hasn't changed that much. I think people get caught up in the shiny new paint job and forget these things are basically tanks that barely wear out. My buddy bought a new one last year and honestly, I couldn't tell a difference when I used it. Save your money and just re-grease the threads on the old one, it'll outlast you...
