Pro tip: a customer's comment about his old Schwinn made me check my assumptions

He said, 'It's just a bike, not a watch,' when I was over-torquing a simple locknut. Anyone else get too focused on precision for simple jobs?

Man I had a buddy who used a torque wrench on a mailbox once, I thought he was joking but he pulled it out of his truck. At some point you gotta ask yourself am I building a spaceship or just putting a bike together so the guy can ride to the store for milk. Ive been guilty of this too, overthinking a simple bolt like its holding a bridge together when really its just keeping a fender from rattling. But hey, if being extra careful means I dont have to fix it twice then maybe the customer was right to call me out, still stings a little though.

Sounds like you were treating that nut like a brain surgery.
