Shop floor dust taught me to check brake pads first, even on new bikes
Back in 2017 I was working a shop in Boise and a brand new road bike came in with a squeal that would not quit. I spent an hour chasing the rotor, then the caliper, before an old mechanic just looked at the pad and said "it's contamination from the packing grease." Now I inspect pads on every build before I even spin the wheel, has anyone else run into factory grease making its way onto rotors?
