Snapped a chain on a group ride last Saturday
I was hammering up a hill in Arlington when my Shimano chain just let go at full power, nearly tossed me over the bars. What do you guys use for chain-checking tools that actually catch wear before it gets this bad?

Damn man that's rough. I've had a chain snap on me before and it really does make you feel like you're gonna eat pavement. I just use one of those simple Park Tool chain checkers, the CC-3.2 model. It's cheap and I've never had a chain fail since I started checking regularly. Do you usually just ride until something breaks or do you stick to a maintenance schedule?

The CC-3.2 is actually the older model, the newer one is the CC-3.3 but they work the same way. Just make sure you're checking at the right spot on the chain or those tools can lie to you.
