Snapped a derailleur hanger on a gravel ride 12 miles from the car last Tuesday

I had to rip the derailleur off, shorten the chain, and single-speed it back to the trailhead, but now I'm wondering if anyone carries a spare hanger on longer rides or just risks it.

Spare hanger lives in my saddle bag now after a similar 8 mile limp home in north Georgia. Haven't needed it again but it's cheap insurance for a part that always breaks at the worst time.

Damn right it's cheap insurance. That 12 mile hike out is miserable enough to justify carrying one. Just tape it to a frame tube or toss it in a jersey pocket, doesn't take up much room. Way easier than turning your bike into a singlespeed on the side of a gravel road lol.
